New minerals were discovered on the Moon. The most well known is called armalcolite, named after the Apollo 11 astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins. Armalcolite is a high titanium mineral that forms at high temperatures and pressures such as those that exist when a meteorite impacts the surface. Armalcolite was unknown prior to the Apollo 11 mission, but has since been found on Earth in the vicinity of impact craters.
