The Hughes Racer in the Museum's Golden Age of Flight gallery was built to fly fast and produce minimal drag. Its many drag-reducing features include landing gear that folds up inside the airplane; a single wing, rather than the double-wing configuration that many early airplanes used; a sleek, smooth surface; and a streamlined shape.
